Dancing Gemini

The career record tells a clean story. Dancing Gemini broke through at Newbury in August 2023, then went straight to Doncaster that September and won a Class 1 there. Doncaster has become something of a home track — two wins from three visits, a ratio that makes the place feel genuinely personal to this horse. The most recent big win came at Sandown Park in April 2025, another Class 1, beating an opponent Teal was happy to name-check as no pushover: a horse trained by the legendary André Fabre, who had finished third in the French Guineas. Teal was buoyant afterwards, pointing out that this horse had been written off as a soft-ground specialist all of last year — a wet summer that kept denying him his chance. Sandown, he felt, finally proved the critics wrong.

The most recent run, at Newbury just days ago, tells its own interesting story. Dancing Gemini finished second, beaten by a neck, on ground Teal described as quicker than the horse had ever raced on. He came away sounding almost proud — this was not a horse being outclassed, this was a horse being denied by conditions while still refusing to be beaten far. "A Group 1 winner waiting to happen," is how the trainer put it. That is not idle boasting from Lambourn. That is a man who has watched this horse every day and genuinely believes the ceiling has not been reached.

With 22 winners already sent out by the yard this season, Dancing Gemini is operating within a yard in form. Teal confirmed after a recent piece of work that the horse is fit, ready, and likely heading to Ascot next. The last six runs show a sharp dip mid-season — finishes of 8th and 13th — but the two most recent efforts, a second and that Sandown win, suggest Dancing Gemini has found his stride again at exactly the right time of year.
