Coul Angel

Robert Havlin, the jockey who has ridden the horse most often, has clearly built an understanding with Coul Angel. The pair have won three of their six races together, a 50% win rate that far outstrips the horse's overall figures and suggests they bring out the best in each other. Trainer Michael Appleby, whose Oakham yard has sent out 71 winners already this season, has placed the horse thoughtfully: it tends to race in Class 4 events, where it has won three from eight races. The concern for the yard right now is form. Coul Angel hasn't won in its last six races, though it has placed four times in that run, which at least suggests it hasn't completely lost ability — just hasn't quite found the winning post. At four years old and with a proven liking for soft ground and familiar tracks, the horse is more than capable of adding to its tally, but the wins will likely come back at courses like Kempton where it has already established itself as a real force.
