The frustration is sharpest in the top-class races. When stepped up to Class 2 company—the kind of race that separates proper contenders from the also-rans—Cotai Belle has managed nothing from three attempts. Those are the toughest tests, though, and most horses never win at that level. The real concern is the recent form. Over the last six races, there's been no sign of a breakthrough: a fourth-place finish most recently, followed by a string of second and third-place efforts. Cotai Belle is consistently finishing near the front but not quite getting there. The horse clearly still has ability—five places in the last six races shows it remains competitive—but something has to shift for another win to arrive.
Trained by Richard and Peter Fahey at their yard in North Yorkshire, Cotai Belle runs for a stable that has been sending winners out regularly this season. The first victory came at Wetherby back in June 2025, and there was that Haydock success the following month, but nothing since. At three years old, the horse is still young enough to find its way back to the winners' enclosure. Whether that happens soon, though, is anyone's guess. For now, Cotai Belle remains a horse knocking on the door but unable to get through.
