Trained by H Rogers out of Ardee in County Louth, Cooley's Mist is part of a yard that has quietly been getting horses across the line this season — six winners sent out, which shows the operation knows how to prepare a winner when the pieces fall into place. The question is whether Cooley's Mist can become one of them. Having raced just one day ago, this is a horse very much in the thick of its campaign right now, and Rogers is clearly keeping it busy, suggesting there is belief that a breakthrough could come with the right opportunity.
Whether that belief is well-placed remains to be seen. A horse that has not placed in six attempts is asking its supporters for a fair amount of patience, and at four years old, time is not unlimited. Still, horses can turn a corner quickly, and a trainer who is producing winners elsewhere in the yard will have a clear sense of what it takes. For Cooley's Mist, the next few races will tell us a great deal about whether that fourth-place run was a sign of things to come, or just a brief shimmer in an otherwise difficult season.
