The issue is that the six most recent runs have produced nothing: finishing positions of 10th, 14th, 6th, 9th, 7th, and 9th, which is a pretty grim sequence and suggests something has gone wrong since that October win, whether that is form, fitness, or simply being pitched against stiffer competition.

The partnership with jockey Sean Levey is one of the more interesting threads here. In six races together, they have won twice — a win rate of 1 in 3, or 33%, which is a strong number for any horse-jockey combination at this level. When Levey is in the saddle, Concert Party has been a different animal, and that is worth paying attention to. The horse also looks most dangerous over a mile and a bit — specifically between one mile one furlong and one mile two furlongs — where it has won 1 from 3 races. That distance sweet spot is narrow but clear.

The training operation behind Concert Party is Denis Gerard Hogan, based in Cloughjordan in County Tipperary. The yard has sent out 56 winners this season, which is a healthy, productive operation — this is not a horse sitting in a quiet backwater, but one managed by a team that clearly knows how to get horses ready to run and win. Concert Party raced just one day ago, so the horse is very much in active campaigning mode. Whether the recent run of poor finishes is a blip or something deeper is the real question — but with the right jockey, the right distance, and a trainer firing on all cylinders, a revival is far from out of the question.
