Most of Coloane's racing life has been spent at Class 6 level, the entry-level tier of British flat racing, picking up 2 wins from 26 races there — a win rate of around 1 in 13 at that grade. That is honest, unglamorous work. But the recent form tells a different story entirely. In its last six races the horse has finished 2nd, 10th, 4th, 5th, 1st and 1st — reading those in order, that means two wins on the bounce coming into a run just one day ago. Whatever has clicked, it has clicked quickly.

Roger Fell's yard in Nawton, North Yorkshire, has sent out 23 winners already this season, which suggests a stable in decent shape, and Coloane looks like one of the horses currently carrying some of that momentum. Mark Winn, who rides the horse most regularly, has won 1 from 5 together — roughly 1 in every 5 rides ending in a win, which is a solid return by any measure. The partnership is still developing, but the timing is good.

Coloane had its first career win at Pontefract back in July 2024, so it took a while to get off the mark. The most recent win came just this week at Wolverhampton — the course where it clearly thrives — and with two wins from its last two races, this is a horse that arrives at the track right now in the best form of its life. Modest by the standards of the sport's headline acts, but at its own level, genuinely in form and worth watching.
