His trainer is blunt about it: the ground has to have some cut in it, and he needs a proper test of stamina. Put him on fast, dry ground and you are wasting a journey. That Cheltenham run on quick ground? He stayed on up the hill regardless, but it was not his day. The horse, as AJ O'Neill put it, will gallop all day long for you — he just needs the right conditions to do it on.
