Circus Act

The two wins tell a story of patience. The first came at Hereford back in February 2023, and then over two years passed before Circus Act found the winner's circle again, finally breaking through at Down Royal in April 2025. That second win was just 13 months ago, which means there is still a live, active horse here — it raced just yesterday. The question is whether a third win is in the locker, because recent form has gone a little quiet: a ninth, a dash (meaning it was pulled up or did not finish), and a fourth and seventh among the last six runs, with no win in that spell.

What is notable is how much better Circus Act goes on normal ground. Both career wins have come on standard conditions, and the record of 2 wins from 14 races on that surface — winning roughly 1 in every 7 — is far stronger than the overall picture suggests. On other ground, it has never won from 21 attempts. That is not a small sample size; that is a clear pattern. When the ground is right, this horse is a different proposition.

Gavin Brouder has ridden Circus Act more than anyone else, partnering the horse in 17 of its 35 races for that sole win together. It is a long-standing partnership without a great deal of silverware to show for it, mirroring the horse's overall record. Nash's yard has sent out just one winner so far this season, so this is not a yard operating at full tilt right now. But Circus Act is still racing, still placing, and still capable on the right day. For a horse that has spent most of its career being the nearly horse, that counts for something.
