What makes the next chapter interesting is the gap since we last saw this horse run. Chico Chico has been off the track for roughly seven months, which is a long time in a young horse's life. Breaks like that can mean all sorts of things — a minor setback, a patient trainer waiting for the right moment, or simply time to grow and strengthen. We don't know which, but it does mean the horse returning to the track is likely a different animal to the one that finished 13th last time out.
Chico Chico is trained by Donal Kinsella, a small yard based in Dunleer, County Louth. With just one winner on the board this season, this is not a yard firing bullets week after week — which makes it all the more worth paying attention to when they do run a horse. Small operations tend to be deliberate about when and where they pitch up.
Whether this horse finds its feet and picks up that elusive first win is genuinely hard to say. But the break, the youth, and the fact there is clearly still something the team believes in — otherwise why bring it back — at least makes the next run worth watching.
