The ground is where things get interesting. On slightly soft turf — that in-between state when the field has had a little rain but not enough to turn it heavy — Chicago Storm transforms. It has won 2 of just 5 races in those conditions, a 40% win rate that is genuinely striking. Most horses at this level win roughly 1 in 10, so doubling that figure on a specific type of ground is not coincidence, it is preference. When the forecast turns damp and the ground softens up, this is a horse worth watching.

Distance matters too. Chicago Storm finds its best form over the longer trips, between one mile six furlongs and two miles, winning 2 of 13 races at those distances — about 1 in 6, which is a noticeably better return than its overall record suggests. Those longer races suit a horse that settles and travels, rather than one that needs to burn bright from the off.

In the saddle, Mr Robbie David has built the strongest partnership with Chicago Storm, winning 2 of their 11 races together — roughly 1 in 5 — which outperforms both the horse's general average and the typical returns you'd expect at Class 4 level. Trainer Daisy Hitchins, operating out of Sherborne in Dorset, has had a productive season with 13 winners from the yard, and Chicago Storm's last victory at Stratford-on-Avon in March 2025 added to that tally.

The recent form tells a more mixed story. Six races without a win, and a sequence of results that includes two blank runs alongside a third and a fourth. The last outing was just yesterday, so this is a horse very much in the thick of its campaign. The first career win came at Naas in August 2024, and with two victories since, there is clearly still something to find when the right conditions arrive. Soft ground, a long trip, and Mr David in the plate — that is when Chicago Storm gives you something to shout about.
