What makes Chemdawg worth paying attention to right now is the timing of that second win. It came just this week at Kilbeggan on 24 April 2026, making the horse currently active and clearly in decent form. Look at the last six races and a picture emerges: after a couple of quieter efforts in the middle of that run, Chemdawg has finished third, fourth, and then second before landing the win. That is a horse finding its groove, and trainers dream of seeing that kind of upward curve at exactly the right moment.

The partnership with jockey Phillip Enright is one of the more curious footnotes in this story. Enright has been in the saddle for 15 of Chemdawg's 26 races — more than half the career — and is yet to ride the horse to victory. Zero wins from 15 rides together is the kind of stat that makes you wonder whether someone is about to change their mind about that arrangement, especially now that the horse has shown it can win without him. It is worth noting, though, that Enright has clearly kept the horse competitive throughout, with several placed efforts in that spell.

Oliver McKiernan trains Chemdawg from Rathcoole in County Dublin, and the yard has sent out four winners already this season, suggesting things are ticking over nicely. Chemdawg does its best work at distances between a mile and six furlongs and two miles — that slightly longer, stamina-testing trip — winning once from eight races at those distances, which works out at 12%, or roughly 1 in every 8. For a horse with this kind of career profile, that is a meaningful edge worth knowing about. The first win came at Roscommon in May 2024, and the second arrived nearly two years later. Patience, it seems, is part of the deal with this one.
