Chelio

Denis Coakley's West Ilsley yard, where Chelio is trained, has sent out 10 winners this season, so the infrastructure is there and the trainer knows how to get horses home. Whether Chelio has the class to join that list remains the question. At three years old there is still time to find a race it can win—plenty of horses break their duck later rather than sooner—but the recent form suggests it is operating at a level just beyond its capabilities right now. The two second places in the last six outings show it is competitive and mixing it with decent opposition, but not quite good enough on those days. A step down in class, or a race that plays to whatever strengths Chelio has, could unlock that elusive first win, but for now it remains a work in progress.
