Most of the horse's racing has come in Class 6 company, which is the entry level of British racing — the kind of race where horses are competing to prove they belong on a track at all. Ten of those 14 races have come at this level, and the win column still reads zero. Three placings from those ten runs tells you the horse is not disgracing itself, but it also suggests that something — whether that is finishing speed, consistency, or just a touch of bad luck — keeps the win just out of reach.
Jockey Daniel Muscutt has partnered Chasing Gold five times without getting that breakthrough, and the recent run of form makes for sober reading: in the last six races, the best result has been a pair of third-place finishes, with a fourth, a sixth, and another fourth filling out the rest of the picture. That said, the horse raced just yesterday, which means it is fit, active, and clearly still being aimed at opportunities. Trainer Michael Keady, based at the famous racing town of Newmarket, has sent out 16 winners this season, so the yard clearly knows how to get a horse to the line first. The fact that Chasing Gold has not been among them yet does not mean it never will be.
For now, this is a horse that turns up, competes honestly, and finishes in the frame just often enough to keep hope alive. Sometimes that is enough.
