The pedigree certainly catches the eye. Chapel Stream is by Palace Pier, a horse who could run and win at the highest level, out of a Camelot mare. Both sire and dam came from serious racing stock, which usually means this two-year-old has inherited the kind of speed and constitution that matters on a racetrack. But pedigree is only half the story. Plenty of horses with impeccable family trees never amount to much in a race, and plenty of modest-looking prospects turn into genuine talents. Chapel Stream's first outing will tell us far more than any family tree.
The horse is in the care of Jane Chapple-Hyam at Dalham in Suffolk, and that matters. Her yard has already sent out 24 winners this season, which is a sign of a training operation that knows how to prepare horses and run them effectively. First-time runners from a yard like that usually arrive at the track in good order. But even that is no guarantee. Chapel Stream will run when it runs, and we will find out then whether there is anything there to work with.
