Chance Another One

The partnership with jockey Donagh Meyler is worth paying close attention to. In nine races together, they've won three times — that's winning roughly 1 in every 3 races, which is a genuinely impressive ratio. Most jockey-horse combinations are happy to hit 1 in 5. When Meyler is in the saddle, Chance Another One clearly goes up a gear.

The ground is a significant factor here. On normal, everyday conditions, this horse has won three of just four races — a 75% record that is frankly remarkable. Racing is unpredictable enough that most horses can't manage that kind of dominance even in their best conditions. It's as close to a banker selection as the sport offers when the ground is right.

Trainer Emmet Mullins, operating out of Bagenalstown in Co. Carlow, has had a productive season with 31 winners sent out, and Chance Another One fits the profile of the kind of tough, consistent performer his yard does well with. The horse opened its winning account at Ballinrobe in July 2025, then went on to score at Kempton Park in November — two very different tracks, which suggests genuine adaptability rather than a one-trick pony.

The recent form does raise a question. After that Kempton win five months ago, the last six runs read 1-4-12-11-4 working backwards from the latest race, with the horse finishing well down the field in a couple of those outings. Racing just one day ago, the team clearly has it fit and ready, and a horse with this kind of record on normal ground hasn't forgotten how to win. Sometimes it just takes the right day, the right conditions, and the right jockey — and with Meyler aboard on a decent surface, the combination that has already produced three wins together could easily produce a fourth.
