Casual Encounter

The recent form makes for difficult reading. Six runs without a win, with finishes of fifth, fifth, sixth, fourth, and sixth in that stretch, suggests a horse that is plugging away without threatening to break through. The fourth place is at least a sign that better performances are possible, but the pattern is one of mid-field finishes rather than near misses. At Class 4 level — the kind of races where horses of this ability typically compete — Casual Encounter has drawn a blank in all four attempts at that tier, which does little to inspire confidence about an imminent change of fortune.

The horse is trained by Barry Brennan at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, a yard that has sent out six winners this season, so the team clearly knows how to get horses to the line first. Whether Casual Encounter can join that list remains the question. Still active and having raced just yesterday, the yard are clearly persisting with the horse, which at least suggests they believe there is something to work with. Finding the right opportunity may be key — but at 12 races and counting, the clock is ticking.
