George Baker, who trains Cashinoroyale at his Epsom Downs yard in Surrey, has had a solid season already — 14 winners sent out so far shows a yard in good form with horses ready to win. Baker knows Epsom better than most, training from the heart of racing country, and the early form from the yard suggests he has his team operating well. What Cashinoroyale will actually do on a racecourse, though, remains a complete unknown. Debut runners are always a lottery, even well-bred ones. Some arrive at the track fully schooled and confident; others find the whole business bewildering. There is no form to read, no pattern to study, no clue in the numbers. The horse will either take to it or not, and nobody knows which way it will go until the gates open.
