Both of those wins have come at the same track: Fairyhouse. From 6 races there, Carrig Sam has won 2, which works out to winning 1 in every 3 visits to that particular course. In racing, a horse that consistently performs at one track is a genuine asset — courses vary enormously in their layout, the way they ride, and the demands they place on a horse, and some animals simply suit one venue in a way they never quite replicate elsewhere. Fairyhouse is clearly Carrig Sam's place.
The partnership with jockey Donagh Meyler is also worth noting. In 5 races together, the two have won twice — a 40% win rate, which is exceptional. Winning 2 from 5 is the kind of number that makes a trainer reach for the phone when planning a run. Eoin Griffin, who trains from his yard in Slieverue, Co Kilkenny, has sent out 8 winners this season, so this is a stable in decent form.
The honest caveat is that Carrig Sam hasn't won in 6 races, and the last victory came at Fairyhouse back in February 2022 — more than four years ago now. The recent form figures of 6th, 6th, and 7th suggest a horse that is competitive but not quite getting to the front. Still, Carrig Sam raced just yesterday, which means the team are clearly keeping this horse active and in the mix. At ten, that level of continued campaigning says the horse remains willing and sound. Whether another win is coming is an open question — but if it does happen, don't be surprised if Fairyhouse is on the racecard.
