The recent form makes for interesting reading. Cape Toronada's last six results, working backwards from the most recent, read 2-4-6-12-7-11 — which tells a story of a horse that has actually been improving lately. The last two runs show a fourth and a second, a sharp contrast to the double-digit finishes earlier in that sequence. Whatever has clicked in recent weeks, it appears to be working.

The horse runs out of Tony Carroll's yard in Cropthorne, Worcestershire, and that is no small thing. Carroll's operation has sent out 136 winners this season alone — a volume that puts it among the more productive training yards in the country. A trainer firing out winners at that rate knows what he is doing, and a horse in that stable getting sharper race by race is worth keeping an eye on. Cape Toronada raced just one day ago, so it is very much in the thick of things right now.
