Trained by Brian Meehan at Manton in Wiltshire, Cap Santa Lucia is part of a stable that has been in fine form, sending out 13 winners already this season. Meehan runs a professional, well-regarded yard, and the fact that this horse is racing and winning so early suggests it has been given every opportunity to develop properly. With the Windsor win coming just one day ago, the horse is very much an active, current proposition rather than one resting on past glory.

Two races is a tiny sample, but the shape of it matters: a place first, then a win. That is a horse learning quickly and improving in the right direction. Whether it can step up in class and repeat this form remains to be seen, but at this stage of its career, Cap Santa Lucia has done absolutely everything asked of it.
