What makes the story more interesting is where this horse has been asked to compete. Four of those thirteen races have come at Class 2 level — some of the better races in Britain — and it has drawn a blank in all four. That is a demanding environment for a horse still searching for its first win, and it raises a fair question about whether dropping into easier company might finally give it the chance to break through.
The recent form doesn't offer much encouragement either. The last six results, reading from most recent backwards, go 8-9-8-8-4-4. That's a horse that was briefly threatening to get involved — back-to-back fourth-place finishes — before drifting further back in the field with each outing. It raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly keeping it busy, but finishing eighth and ninth in its last two runs suggests something isn't quite clicking right now.
Trainer Steph Hollinshead operates out of Upper Longdon in Staffordshire and has sent out 7 winners this season, which shows the yard knows how to get horses across the line. The puzzle is finding the right opportunity for this one. Sometimes a horse just needs the stars to align — the right race, the right conditions, the right day. Call Me By My Name hasn't found that combination yet, but with a yard that is clearly in form around it, there's still reason to keep watching.
