Caislean Gear

The recent form tells the story perfectly. Last time out was that Galway victory on 2 August. Before that came a second place, then a fourth, then another win just over a fortnight earlier at Killarney. So in the last four races, Caislean Gear has won two of them and placed twice—that is genuine form, not a lucky streak. The horse raced yesterday and is clearly being kept active, which suggests Andrew Slattery's yard at Thurles sees something worth running regularly.

Slattery's operation is in good order this season—the yard has sent out 62 winners already—and the trainer appears to have this horse well suited to the level it is running at. Two wins from four races at this stage is the kind of record that could take Caislean Gear somewhere, especially with that win at Galway so fresh. If the horse stays sound and keeps meeting the right races, there could be more to come this summer.
