Trained by Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore out of Milnathort in Perth and Kinross — a yard that has sent out 49 winners this season alone — Cadell was always seen as a horse with long-distance potential. Scudamore has spoken openly about the horse's future, describing him as a natural stayer who won two point-to-points before joining the yard, and admitting that something like a Scottish Grand National sits quietly at the back of their minds. "You just dream," he said. That is not idle chat from a trainer — it is a considered observation about a horse whose stamina and attitude suggest the bigger tests could genuinely suit him.

His recent form has been patchy, with a difficult run at Kelso when his saddle slipped ending his race almost before it started — circumstances rather than a decline in ability. Before that, he won a Class 2 race at Kelso in March 2025, one of the top two tiers of British racing, which tells you this horse is capable of stepping up and performing. Russell noted after that win that dropping back in class gave him a slight edge, and that on the day he simply had a little more speed than the horse in second. Sometimes that is all it takes.

His most regular rider is Derek Fox, who has won 2 of their 8 races together — a 25% win rate, or 1 in every 4 outings. That is a meaningful partnership at a track where familiarity counts. Cadell raced just yesterday, keeping himself current and active heading into what figures to be another busy campaign. A horse who loves Kelso, thrives on soft ground, and has trainers quietly dreaming of bigger things — there is plenty of story still to tell here.
