His one career win came at Kelso in October 2025, and the way joint-trainer Lucinda Russell described it afterwards gave you a sense of a horse with real potential. She noted he has loads of scope, won well, and that the horses he beat that day were no mugs — so the form carries weight. The other encouraging detail was his jumping. Russell flagged it as a tool that could actually help settle him down, because Caballo De Guerra's main quirk is a tendency to be keen — to pull hard and race enthusiastically when he'd be better off conserving energy. That kind of eagerness can work against a horse in longer races, burning fuel early that he'll need later.

That trait showed up most clearly at Cheltenham shortly after his Kelso win, where the race turned into something of a sprint — exactly the wrong shape for a horse who needs to be settled and measured. Even so, the yard's view was that he jumped well and came out of it with credit, and they still see him as an exciting prospect capable of running in a decent race. At his typical level — Class 4, which is mid-tier British racing — he's won 1 from 3, so roughly one in every three attempts, which is a meaningful number and suggests he belongs at that grade when things go his way.

He hasn't won in his last six races, and his recent form figures show a mix of mid-field finishes and a couple of gaps in his schedule. But he raced just yesterday, so he's very much in active campaign, and Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore's yard at Milnathort has sent out 49 winners this season — this is a team operating in confident form. If the team can find a race that plays to his jumping and gives him a chance to travel kindly rather than fight for his head, there's a feeling that Kelso might not be the last time his name appears in the winner's enclosure.
