What we do know is the breeding. Pour Moi, the sire, won the Epsom Derby, one of the most prestigious flat races in the world, so there is genuine quality on the father's side. The dam comes from the Kapgarde line, a stallion whose offspring have made their names overwhelmingly over jumps — tough, reliable horses built for jumping fences and hurdles rather than sprinting on a flat track. Put those two together and you have an interesting mix: a dash of Classic flat-race blood blended with a jumping pedigree. On a debut, that combination gives you very little to go on, but it hints at a horse that might need time and experience before showing its best.
The trainer, at least, inspires confidence. Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies run one of the most productive yards in the country from their Naunton base in Gloucestershire, and 61 winners already this season tells you this is not a yard that sends horses out just to make up the numbers. When a stable of that size and quality bothers to run a first-timer, it is usually because someone at the yard likes what they have seen at home.
