What's encouraging is the consistency. Four of those five runs have produced a place finish, and the most recent effort — just yesterday — added another one to the tally. This is not a horse that blows hot and cold. It finds its level, runs its race, and leaves with something to show for it. The missing ingredient right now is simply getting its nose in front, and at three years old, there's still plenty of time for that to click.
The trainer is Ed Walker, who operates out of Upper Lambourn in Berkshire — one of the heartlands of British flat racing, where the gallops and the expertise have been producing racehorses for generations. Walker's yard has sent out 80 winners already this season, which is a serious number. Running a stable that productive means horses are placed carefully, trained well, and given proper chances. Butterfly Beach is in good hands, and when a trainer of that calibre keeps running a horse, it usually means they believe the win is coming.
The question is where and when. A horse this consistent deserves a race it can win, and with Walker's team knowing their string as well as they do, it would be no surprise to see Butterfly Beach lining up very soon in a spot that suits — and finally getting the result its effort has been pointing toward.
