The horse has form right now. He won at Killarney just this week, his second win in his last six outings, and before that he finished third and fourth. That's not the record of a horse in decline. His recent record reads 1-1-–-5-3-4 (most recent first), which shows he's capable of bouncing back after a poor run — he finished fifth but came back to win his next time out. Henry De Bromhead trains him from Knockeen in County Waterford, a yard that's sent out 110 winners this season, so he's in a place that knows how to get horses ready. He's been ridden mostly by Darragh O'Keeffe, though that partnership has only produced one win from five races together, suggesting there might be something that clicks better with other riders in the saddle.

Butch Cassidy's first win came at Ballinrobe back in April 2024, and he's built on that with three more victories since. He's active and racing regularly, which is what you want to see. The question isn't whether he can win — he clearly can — but whether he can string more wins together and step up to slightly better opportunities. For a horse that wins two races for every five it runs, that's a perfectly reasonable ambition.
