Burru

His form over his last six races tells the story of a horse treading water. He was fourth two races back, eighth most recently, with a win sandwiched in between. It is the pattern of a horse who can still find his way to victory but whose days as a consistent threat seem behind him. Interestingly, his regular jockey — Mr R Sugrue — has never won aboard him, riding him five times without a success. That disconnect is worth noting: Burru has managed both his wins with different riders, which might suggest the partnership simply lacks the necessary spark.

His maiden breakthrough came at Cork in November 2024, which took a while. At eight years old, Burru has now been racing long enough to know what is required, and his 2 wins reflect a horse who understands how to finish a job, even if the opportunities do not come often. For a horse with his record, racing actively at this stage is respectable enough — he is earning his keep as a legitimate if modest competitor in jump racing.
