The recent form figures make for sobering reading: 15-11-9-9-4-10, reading from most recent back. That fourth-place finish, buried in the middle of the sequence, is as close as Brosna Green has come to troubling the judge. Not once across 19 races has this horse managed to finish in the top three — a record that is, statistically speaking, remarkably consistent, just not in the way the yard would hope for. Winning zero from 19 is one thing; not placing once is another level entirely.

Regular partner Rory Mulligan has had five of those attempts himself, and the pair have yet to find the combination that changes the story — zero wins from five together. Trainer J G Murray's yard has managed one winner this season in total, so it is fair to say this is not an operation firing on all cylinders at the moment, though someone there clearly believes another run is always worth trying. Whether that faith will eventually be rewarded is the question Brosna Green has been declining to answer for nineteen races and counting.
