Broomfield Bijou

The current run without a win stretches back 22 months, to a victory at Wexford in July 2024, and that gap is starting to tell its own story. In the six most recent races, Broomfield Bijou has finished second twice and fourth once, so the effort is clearly still there — this isn't a horse falling away through the field. But converting those near-misses into a win has proved elusive, and the last six results read 4-2-13-2-–-7, which is the profile of a horse that can threaten without quite sealing the deal.

Jockey Donagh Meyler has had more rides on Broomfield Bijou than anyone else — seven in total — but the pair are still waiting for that first win together. Seven races is a reasonable partnership to build on, and the second-place finishes show the combination isn't far off, but the chemistry hasn't quite translated into a victory yet. Trainer James William Hannon's yard has sent out just one winner this season, so the whole operation will be eager for things to click. Broomfield Bijou, who raced just one day ago and is very much still active, remains one of the more interesting prospects in that regard — a horse with proven winning form, a recent run on its legs, and clearly still competitive enough to place. The first win at Ballinrobe back in April 2023 showed what this horse can do when everything falls right. The team will be hoping it doesn't take another 22 months to prove it again.
