The frustrating part is what has followed. Breezethroughlife has not won in its last six races, and its most regular partner, jockey Jack Quinlan, is still waiting for that first win together from six attempts. To be fair to Quinlan, the horse has shown up — placings of third and third in its most recent completed finishes suggest it is running consistently enough, just not quite getting over the line. The partnership has been close but not quite clicking.
Neil King, who trains the horse from his yard in Wroughton, Wiltshire, has had a productive season with 16 winners sent out, so the operation clearly knows how to get horses winning. The fact that Breezethroughlife's one career win came at Fakenham is worth noting — it is a small, tight track in Norfolk that tends to suit certain types of horse, and sometimes a track just suits a particular animal in a way that is hard to explain. Whether King and the team try Fakenham again to get another win on the board would be an interesting call.
Raced just one day ago, this is a horse very much in the middle of its season. With a win rate of 10% overall — one win from ten races — it is not setting the world on fire statistically, but the five place finishes tell you it belongs at this level. It just needs everything to fall right on the day. Whether that day comes soon is the question.
