What makes this interesting, however, is who is responsible for her. Boston Queen is trained by Gordon Elliott at his operation in Longwood, Co Meath — one of the most powerful yards in Ireland. Elliott's team has sent out 209 winners already this season, which is a staggering number and a reminder that this is a stable that knows how to get horses competitive. The fact that Boston Queen has not yet troubled the judge is unlikely to reflect a lack of care or attention — it simply means she has not found her level yet, or perhaps not found the right opportunity.
She also returns having been off the track for roughly five months, her last run coming 175 days ago. A break that long can mean many things — a minor setback, a deliberate freshening up, or simply waiting for the right race to come along. Either way, she comes back into competition as something of an unknown quantity. Horses can improve after time away, and given she has shown nothing dramatic to suggest she is without ability, there is at least a reason to watch with mild curiosity rather than write her off entirely. In a yard sending out winners at the rate Elliott's is, horses tend not to hang around without purpose.
