Trained by Harry Charlton at Beckhampton in Wiltshire, Boilermaker is in capable hands. Charlton's operation has sent out 38 winners already this season, which tells you this is a yard that knows how to get horses ready to perform. When a trainer of that productivity keeps running a horse that hasn't won yet, it usually means they believe there's a win in there somewhere — and that runner-up finish last time out will have done nothing to change that view.

The question now is whether Boilermaker can turn a placing into a victory. Converting placed efforts into wins is one of the trickier steps in a young horse's development, and at three years old there's still time to figure it out. With a race just one day ago, the yard will be watching closely to see how the horse comes out of that effort before deciding on next steps. The momentum, at least, is pointing the right way.
