What those recent numbers do show is a horse that has found some consistency of late. The three consecutive top-four finishes — including two thirds and a fourth — suggest Bogha Baiste is running better than earlier in its career, when a seventh and a twelfth pointed to a horse that was struggling to find its footing. Whether that improvement is enough to finally break the duck remains the question.

The horse is trained by Lizzie Quinlan at Bolton Mill in Cumbria, a yard that has sent out four winners this season. Quinlan's operation is a modest one by the numbers, but four winners is four winners — the horses leave that yard knowing how to win races, even if Bogha Baiste hasn't managed to join that list yet. With the horse having raced as recently as yesterday, it is clearly fit and active, and Quinlan will be looking to find the right opportunity to turn those placed efforts into something more.
