Across 30 races, Bluegrass has won 5 times and finished in the places a further 12 times, giving him a win rate of roughly 1 in every 6 races — solid, if unspectacular, for a horse operating primarily at Class 3 level, which sits just below the top tier of British racing. At that level he has won 3 from 11, or just over 1 in every 4, which is genuinely good. He is at his best over a trip of one mile six furlongs to two miles — a proper stamina test — and he particularly loves wet or muddy ground, winning 2 from 8 races in those conditions. Put him on a soft track over a good distance and the form figures start to look a lot more interesting.

The partnership with jockey Charlie Hammond is worth noting. Together they have won 4 of their 12 races — that is 1 in every 3, a win rate that would make most racing people sit up. Hammond clearly knows how to get the best out of a horse that, by his trainer's own admission, is very lazy at home and needs things done a certain way. Edmunds has been candid that Bluegrass has had wind operations and wears a tongue-tie to help him breathe properly in a race — details that hint at a horse who has needed careful management to reach his potential.

Bluegrass last won at Southwell in October 2025, seven months ago, and his last six runs read 7-8-4-4-3-8 — a sequence that shows flickers of form without a win to show for it. He raced just yesterday, so he is very much a horse in the thick of his campaign. Edmunds's yard has been in strong form this season, sending out 24 winners, so the infrastructure is there for Bluegrass to return to winning ways. The question is whether he finds the wet ground and the right track — and if Fakenham comes around again on a rainy day, he would be a very interesting runner indeed.
