The recent form makes for uncomfortable reading. Working backwards from the most recent run, the figures read as a string of mid-pack and tail-end finishes, including a 17th place that suggests at least one day where things went badly wrong. Racing primarily at Class 4 level — the kind of races designed to give horses a winnable opportunity — Blazing Gaden has still failed to trouble the judge, going 0 from 3 at that level. Class 4 is not the top tier; it is, in many ways, exactly where a horse like this should be finding its feet. That it hasn't is the honest concern here.
There is a sliver of context worth noting. D J Jeffreys' yard has sent out four winners this season, which tells you the operation knows how to get a horse ready to win. The problem, at least for now, is that Blazing Gaden has not been one of them. With its most recent run coming just one day ago, this is a horse very much in the middle of its story — and perhaps the yard are still searching for the right race, the right conditions, or simply waiting for something to click. It does happen. But six races is a reasonable sample, and so far the evidence points to a horse that is finding life on the track genuinely difficult.
