Trained by Ollie Sangster out of Marlborough in Wiltshire, the horse is still at the very beginning of its story. A single seventh-place finish tells you almost nothing about where a young horse might end up — two-year-olds are essentially learning on the job every time they step on a track, and plenty of horses who finish midfield on debut go on to win races once they settle into the routine. What matters more at this stage is that the team around Black Treasure is a strong one. Sangster's yard has already sent out 42 winners this season, which speaks to an operation that knows how to get horses ready to run and ready to win. Horses trained here are not making up the numbers.
There is nothing to judge Black Treasure on yet — no wins, no placed finishes, no pattern to speak of. But being in this yard means it will get every chance to show what it can do.
