Big Win

What makes the next chapter interesting is the yard behind it. Harry Charlton trains out of Beckhampton in Wiltshire, one of the more respected operations in British racing, and the numbers back that up — 38 winners sent out this season alone. A trainer running at that volume knows which horses are worth persisting with and which aren't. The fact that Big Win is returning to the track after a break of roughly five months suggests Charlton sees something worth nurturing here, whether that's a physical issue that needed time, or simply a young horse that wasn't ready when it first hit the track.

Three-year-olds are often a work in progress. Some take half a season just to understand what racing actually asks of them, and a horse coming back fresh after five months away can sometimes be a completely different proposition. Whether Big Win lives up to its name any time soon remains to be seen, but it's at least in the right hands to find out.
