What's worth remembering is that two races tells you almost nothing about a young horse. At this age, they are still learning what racing actually is — the noise, the crowds, the demands of competing. A fifth-place finish from two attempts is hardly cause for alarm, and the step up from ninth to fifth suggests there may already be some improvement happening.
The stable behind the horse gives genuine reason for optimism. James Tate's Newmarket yard has sent out 48 winners already this season — that is a serious operation, and horses that come out of serious operations tend to get every opportunity to show what they can do. Newmarket is the heartland of British flat racing, and Tate has built a yard that knows how to develop young horses. When a trainer of that calibre keeps running a two-year-old, it usually means they can see something worth persevering with. Beautiful Rainbow's best days, in all likelihood, are still ahead.
