What makes this worth watching, though, is the yard behind the horse. David Menuisier operates out of Pulborough in West Sussex and has sent out 25 winners already this season, which tells you this is a trainer who knows how to get horses ready to perform. When a stable is firing at that rate, a young three-year-old that finished seventh on debut is far from a write-off — it is more likely a work in progress. Menuisier tends to place his horses carefully, and the fact that Be Hopeful raced as recently as yesterday suggests the team are keen to keep things moving.
A seventh-place finish from a single run means almost nothing at this stage. Three-year-olds routinely need that first experience just to understand what racing is about — the noise, the pace, the company. The interesting question is what comes next.
