Since then, Battle Point has finished in the top four on ten occasions without ever getting back to the winner's enclosure. The last six runs tell a familiar story: a couple of fourth places, nothing worse than tenth, but no win. Consistent enough to keep the yard hopeful, not good enough to seal the deal.

Class 6 is the lowest tier of British racing, and that is where Battle Point has spent almost its entire career, running 41 times at that level and winning just once — a win rate of roughly 1 in every 40 races, or just 2%. To put that in perspective, a decent horse at this level might win 1 in every 8 or 10 races. Battle Point is not that horse, but it keeps showing up, and on its day it can run into a place.

William Carson is the jockey most associated with Battle Point, riding the horse 17 times — more than a third of its entire career. Together they have one win, which works out at around 1 in every 17 rides, or 6%. That is a modest return, though it reflects the horse's overall profile rather than any particular failing on Carson's part.

The trainer is Michael Attwater, operating out of Epsom in Surrey — a yard that has sent out 25 winners already this season, so they clearly know how to get horses winning. Battle Point simply hasn't been one of them for a very long time. At this point, the horse's value lies less in its trophy cabinet and more in its reliability as a competitor — it places, it runs its race, and it showed up again just yesterday. Whether another win is coming is genuinely hard to say, but Battle Point's record suggests that if it does happen, Lingfield Park would be a reasonable place to look.
