What gives the situation some context is who is doing the training. Richard Hannon, based at Herridge in Wiltshire, is one of the most prolific yards in Britain, having sent out 118 winners already this season alone. That kind of volume means Hannon knows better than most how long some horses take to click — and with Barrister racing as recently as yesterday, the team clearly has not given up on finding the right opportunity. Sometimes it just takes a horse a few runs to work out what is being asked of it. The question is whether Barrister can turn those near-miss fourths into something more meaningful before the season runs out.
