The wins do exist in his record. He broke through as a juvenile at Kempton Park in May 2025, then added a second victory at Wolverhampton that July. Both came in lower-level races, the type where he has found his true level. At Class 6 — the bottom rung of the racing ladder — he has won twice from thirteen attempts, a healthy fifteen percent win rate. But move him up or shift the circumstances slightly, and something goes wrong. Across his full career, he wins only once every eleven races, a figure that masks an uncomfortable truth: the winning formula has stopped working.

His recent form reads like a study in near-misses and modest efforts. He was placed fifth just yesterday, continuing a pattern from his last six races where a single fifth-place finish is the best he has managed. Four sevenths and a twelfth fill the rest — the kind of results that suggest a horse dropping in confidence or finding the step up in difficulty too steep. Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam's Newmarket yard has had success elsewhere this season with seven winners already, but Ballsgrove Boy remains stuck, running without reward for fourteen months and slowly fading into the category of horses that fill a race but rarely win it. At this rate, he is heading toward being a professional bridesmaid — useful to have in a field, but rarely worth backing.
