The trainer herself has described him as "a tough, genuine little horse", and the record backs that up. He operates mainly at Class 4 level — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, a step below the big occasions but far from easy — and at that level he has been genuinely reliable, winning 6 of his 18 races there, which works out at 1 in 3. That is a strong return. His best ground is normal conditions, where he has won 4 from 11 races, or just over 1 in 3 again. He is not a specialist who needs everything to go perfectly; he simply does his job when conditions are fair.

His favourite track is Ffos Las, the Welsh course that suits smaller, consistent horses who know their business. He has raced there 13 times and won twice, including as recently as June 2025. Two wins from 13 might not sound spectacular, but 13 visits to the same track tells you this is a horse that keeps coming back — and occasionally delivers. The Williams yard, with Mrs C Williams training and Isabel Williams most often in the saddle, have clearly built their approach around knowing exactly what suits him. That partnership of 5 wins from 25 races together — again, 1 in 5 — suggests a horse and rider combination that works.

His recent form reads a little patchy on paper: he has finished fifth, first, fifth, sixth, and then off the board in his last six runs, most recently racing just yesterday. But a horse that is still being aimed at races at nine years old, still winning at Ffos Las less than a year ago, and still turning up consistently is not a horse anyone at the yard has given up on. The trainer has spoken about mixing things up with him and giving him fresh challenges. For a small Welsh yard sending out 3 winners this season, Balkardy remains one of their most dependable tools — experienced, versatile, and still in the game.
