The recent form makes for difficult reading. In the last six races, the best finish recorded is fifth, with results of 8th, 13th, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 13th. To put that in context, a thirteenth-place finish means there were twelve horses that crossed the line ahead of it. These are not near-misses — this is a horse that has consistently found the vast majority of its rivals too quick or too strong.
What is notable is that Awakening raced just yesterday, so the team clearly has not given up. Whether they are searching for the right race, the right conditions, or simply staying patient, the horse is still active and still being given chances. At five years old, there is no obvious reason to think improvement is impossible, but eight races without even troubling the judge for a place finish is a significant challenge to overcome. For now, Awakening remains one of racing's works in progress.
