At nine years old, this horse has had every opportunity to find the winner's enclosure and has declined each one. Across 28 races, it has placed five times — meaning it has finished in the frame without actually winning on roughly one in every six outings — but that first victory remains stubbornly out of reach. A 0% win rate from 28 races is, by any measure, a significant drought, and the recent form offers little sign of a breakthrough coming. The last six runs read 5-2-4-–-4-9, which tells a mixed story: that second-place finish suggests the ability to get competitive, but the blank and the ninth suggest inconsistency is very much part of the package.

Perhaps the most striking subplot here is the partnership with Miss E J Sweeney, who has ridden Attaboyarchie in 23 of those 28 races. That is a genuinely committed association — you don't keep putting the same jockey up on a horse 23 times unless there is belief somewhere in the team that the combination will click. So far, it hasn't produced a win, but the loyalty itself says something about how the yard in Skerries sees this horse.

Trainer Karl Thornton has sent out four winners from his Co Dublin base this season, so the stable is clearly capable of getting horses to the line first. Attaboyarchie, raced just one day ago and still very much in training, remains part of those plans. Whether that elusive first win ever comes is the question that has now followed this horse across nearly three years' worth of racing. In the meantime, it keeps showing up, keeps placing occasionally, and keeps making that second-place finish feel like it might one day turn into something more.
