Atlantis Blue

Baker trains out of Chiddingfold in Surrey, and his yard has sent out 16 winners already this season. He has clearly found the formula with Atlantis Blue: wet or softened ground, a trip of a mile and a furlong to a mile and two furlongs, and Jim Crowley in the saddle. That combination has produced all three of her career wins. Crowley has ridden her six times and won on three of those occasions — a 50% win rate that is extraordinary by any measure, and a reminder that in racing, the right jockey-horse partnership can make a bigger difference than almost anything else. As Crowley put it after one run, she used to be headstrong, but he has found a way to settle her and let her race on her own terms.

Her win at Lingfield Park in July 2025 came on rain-softened ground, and Baker was refreshingly honest afterwards, admitting a run at Sandown shortly before had been a mistake on his part — the ground was wrong. He had been telling his owners all summer that the rain would come, and when it finally did, Atlantis Blue delivered. Her next run was a close second at Glorious Goodwood, again in soft conditions, beaten by a horse from the powerful Cheveley Park operation. She was even featured in a Racing Post piece on unlucky losers from the meeting — a small but telling detail. Then, in her following race back at Goodwood, she went off favourite and banged her head leaving the stalls. Sometimes sport is cruel.

Her recent form reads 1-2-5-7-4-4, and at Class 5 level — the entry point of British racing — she has won 3 of her 17 races there, or roughly 1 in 6. She raced just yesterday and is clearly in a busy, active spell. She is a horse that needs specific conditions to show her best, and Baker knows it. When the clouds roll in and Crowley is booked, Atlantis Blue is worth watching.
