Argentine Tango

The breakthrough came at Pontefract on 30 April, but the real indicator of class arrived two months later when Argentine Tango won a Class 2 race at Beverley on 24 May. Just over a month after that, on 26 June, it pulled off something special — a Class 1 win at Newmarket, one of the most prestigious racecourses in the country. That victory planted a flag. But the last two months have been tougher: the horse raced at Ayr on 20 June and won, yet the six most recent runs tell a different tale — two second places, but also finishes in sixth place twice, suggesting form has become unreliable.

David Allan rides Argentine Tango whenever the jockey is available, and they work well together: 3 wins from 10 races is a 30 percent win rate, considerably better than the horse's overall figures. That partnership matters. The horse is trained by T D Easterby's yard in North Yorkshire, a powerhouse stable that has already sent out 128 winners this season, so the infrastructure and horsemanship are clearly sharp. Argentine Tango raced just a day ago and is still active, meaning the yard sees something worth running for. The horse has the class to win Class 1 races and a jockey who brings out its best. Whether it can string those wins together regularly is the real question.
