Argentine Tango

The path to that moment was quick and convincing. Argentine Tango broke its duck at Pontefract in late April 2025, followed that up with a Class 2 win at Beverley less than four weeks later, and then stepped straight into the top tier and delivered at Newmarket. Three wins in three different grades, three different tracks, all within two months — that is a horse finding its feet fast and doing it at increasingly high levels.

Since then, though, the results have dried up. Argentine Tango has not won in its last six races, and those runs — finishing sixth, eighth, sixth, third, seventh, and fourth — suggest a horse that has found life at Class 1 level, where it now regularly competes, genuinely tough. Winning roughly 1 in every 8 races at that grade (just 1 from 8 attempts, or 12%) is the reality of mixing it with the best horses in Britain. That Newmarket win starts to look even more impressive in that context — not a fluke, but perhaps a peak it has not yet scaled again.

Jockey David Allan has been the consistent presence in the saddle, partnering Argentine Tango in 9 of its 13 races and riding all three of its wins. That gives them a win rate of 33% together — winning roughly 1 in every 3 races as a partnership — which is a strong number by any measure and speaks to a genuine understanding between horse and rider. Easterby's yard, meanwhile, is in fine form this season with 126 winners already sent out, so Argentine Tango is operating in a confident, well-resourced team. The question now is whether, at three years old with a Classic-level win already on its record, it can find that top gear again.
