What sets Ardisia apart is his consistency and versatility. He has won twice from three races on slightly soft ground, a 67 percent win rate that suggests he thrives when conditions turn against him. His trainer Hugo Palmer has built a reputation for developing tough, honest horses, and this one clearly fits that mold. At Class 2 level—where Ardisia typically competes—he has a 33 percent win rate (2 wins from 6 races), which is exactly the kind of win rate that tells you he belongs there. The jockey Oisin Orr, who rode him to victory at Redcar, found him tireless and willing; the horse travelled well through the race and only just got there in the final 50 yards, the mark of a competitor rather than a flash in the pan.

The one puzzle is the form since that October win. His last six races have been a mix of placings and midfield finishes—second, fourth, fifteenth, third, sixth, fourth—with no wins. That fifteenth is a dent, certainly, but a horse that wins five from eighteen does not lose his talent overnight. He raced just a day ago, so Ardisia is still active and being campaigned regularly by Palmer's Malpas yard. For a young horse with genuine top-level winning form already on his record, there is every reason to think better days are ahead.
