That single win came at Wolverhampton on 2 September 2025, and it matters more than it might first appear. Wolverhampton is an all-weather track that runs year-round under floodlights — a very different experience from racing on grass — and winning there requires a horse to actually enjoy the tight, left-handed circuit. Arbitration clearly does. The question now is whether the yard, run by Joe Tizzard out of Milborne Port in Dorset, can find the right opportunities to build on it. Tizzard has been in fine form this season with 58 winners, so there is plenty of know-how behind this horse.

The most interesting detail, though, is what happens when Arbitration races over a mile and a furlong to a mile and two furlongs. At that distance, the record is 1 win from 3 races — winning 1 in every 3, which is a completely different animal from the overall picture. Most horses have a sweet spot, a distance where everything clicks, and this looks very much like Arbitration's. Jockey Clifford Lee has been in the saddle for 6 of those 13 races and has the one win to show for it, a win rate of roughly 1 in 6 — not spectacular, but a working partnership that knows the horse.

The one puzzle worth noting is the Class 4 record: 0 wins from 6 races at that level. That is the tier where Arbitration has been asked to step up, and so far the answer has been no. It is a reminder that one win does not rewrite the whole story. But with a trainer in form, a clear preferred distance, and a race just yesterday keeping the horse sharp and race-fit, there is every reason to watch what comes next.
